I’m Lucie and my most recent role was in Release Management for Axon Vibe, who are a location-based AI ‘Smart Mobility Platform’.
I am familiar with DevOps and Agile practices and can offer a friendly hand to improve organisational structure, communication and processes.
How did you end up doing the job you're doing now?
I had spent 15 years working in a variety of roles within the Hospitality industry. For the final 3 years of that, I worked on a contracting basis specialising in implementing and streamlining key IT systems during Hotel acquisition projects.
I wanted a new challenge that offered a workplace to call home as it were (my definition being my own desk that I could put my mug on in a room that wasn’t my back bedroom)!
I looked for roles in which I could use my transferable skills and the position of Release Co-ordinator was perfect for this.
If you could say something to yourself before you started a career in tech what would it be?
Knowing it all is near on impossible – and certainly not necessary! The perfectionist within me has struggled with this at times.
What's the most challenging thing you've found about being a woman in tech?
Trying my best to ignore the more than obvious gender gap in the industry and therefore negate the feeling of being a minority or less entitled to succeed.
Lockdown bonus questions:
How has lockdown affected your life and your job? Are you working from home? Furloughed?
Are you enjoying the downtime or can you not wait for things to go back to normal(ish)?
Lockdown has had a pretty profound effect for me from a professional standpoint in that I was unfortunately made redundant at the beginning of May.
I moved in with family at the beginning of lockdown to muck in with caring for my twin 2.5 year old niece and nephew (many hands, light work, nurseries closed and all that)! So they keep me pretty busy, in amongst trying to learn some new skills and search for my next opportunity.
