I am a software testing engineer & QA Analyst for Brisk. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and good at solving issues and enhancing processes. I have a real desire to ensure systems work correctly and in a manner that is both straightforward and intuitive to the user.
How did you end up doing the job you're doing now?
Through an apprenticeship, I started off as a Apprentice Support Engineer before moving into full software support & testing.
If you could say something to yourself before you started a career in tech what would it be?
Just because my path is different, doesn’t mean I’m lost. Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one.
What's the most challenging thing you've found about being a woman in tech?
Before I accepted my apprenticeship, I was asked “You would work in an office full of men, would you feel comfortable with that?”. I feel there’s a very diverse workplace and it is a big adjustment. I do feel like people don’t take women in tech as seriously.
Lockdown bonus questions:
How has lockdown affected your life and your job? Are you working from home? Furloughed?
Are you enjoying the downtime or can you not wait for things to go back to normal(ish)?
I have spent the last 2 months furloughed after working from home for several weeks. I struggled to start with from the lack of routine, being away from the team, but found a lot to keep me busy around the house. I now have a new routine, I don’t watch any news as I can really find that sucks you in to feeling trapped and I take day by day. I am really happy in my life at the moment and it has been brilliant to take time for me.
