I am a Digital Marketing Manager at Whoop Digital. I have recently switched focus to major on all things e-commerce helping clients find out who their clients are, where they hang out online and how to place their brand in front of the right customer at the right time with the right message! From social media management to website strategy I work with brands to help them create an integrated marketing approach. With a great depth of knowledge across digital and e-com I get excited by DATA! For a digital marketer there is nothing more satisfying then seeing the results from a data driven campaign! My curious brain is always on the look out for the latest tech development or hack.
How did you end up doing the job you're doing now?
Good question… Fresh out of school I attended Nottingham Trent University where I studied Multimedia working on video, website design and animation my time there lasted for just a year when I realised that I was creatively confused… I was learning all new skills but there wasn’t one thing I could channel my creativity into. I purchased a camera that Christmas and next thing I knew I was packing my bag and applying for a placement at Norwich University of the Arts to study Photography.
I really enjoyed my time at Norwich University of the Arts I fell in love with Norwich as soon as I arrived and the rest was history. I completed the course with a First Class Honors degree – go me!
What next I said to myself? My third and final module of my course was all around self promotion and marketing your photography business. In all honesty I had never thought about being a photographer…I just loved being creative, it was just during this module that I realised making business cards, creating a website for Harriette Phillips the Photographer was actually the fun bit..
That evening I searched for Digital Marketing it was so varied there were so many different elements to it.. but I had just finished university with a photography degree not a digital marketing degree… Everywhere I looked you needed a Digital Marketing qualification.. I needed work experience! I emailed agencies prepared to work for free just for experience and the rest is history I was able to complete work experience at the then Whoop Marketing and six years later I am Digital Marketing Manager at Whoop Digital!
If you could say something to yourself before you started a career in tech what would it be?
The learning never stops you will not be able to know everything!
What's the most challenging thing you've found about being a woman in tech?
There being so few of us – although that is changing!!

How has lockdown affected your life and your job? Are you working from home? Furloughed?
Are you enjoying the downtime or can you not wait for things to go back to normal(ish)?
We have decided to operate from home full time and that’s the biggest change! I am enjoying my time during lockdown it has made everyone stop and enjoy the little things again!
